Fishing for Addition

I’m a pretty big sucker for finding a good deal and mixing it up a bit.  I was in Target the other day and they had the “Let’s Go Fishing” game on sale, so I bought it.  I actually had no idea what I was going to use if for, but I knew something would pop into my head in no time.  I decided  to place numbers 0-10 on the bottoms of the fish.  I could use it for a variety of math games.  They could fish for two numbers and add them together to get a sum, compare the fish numbers, and doubles.

My kids always struggle with the doubles concept in math, so I figured this would be a great opportunity to make a fun game for math center time.  They go fishing for a fish and write the number in the first box and double it in the second box.  They continue to fish until all the fish are gone.  I like this game because it would be played in a small group, pairs, or by themselves.
